CAMO – Centro Ambrosiano Oftalmico has always channeled considerable resources into the development of technology and the in-depth study of techniques to ensure the safe and confident professional use of the latest innovative machinery.

Our number:

1977-the present day: the first in Italy to use phacoemulsification techniques in the treatment of cataract;
1989-the present day: the first in Italy to use the excimer laser in the correction of myopia;
2003-the present day: the first in Italy to use the femtosecond laser in the treatment of myopia;
2011: the first in Italy to use the femtosecond laser in the treatment of cataract.

Using the best technology available has always been the norm at CAMO.

Lasers and main operating instruments

Femtosecond laser Alcon LenSx System	Latest generation of laser for cataract surgery, presented first in Italy by CAMO in 2011, updated in 2015.
Excimer laser (fifth generation) Baush+Lomb/Technolas Perfect Vision Z-100 PTA	Fifth generation laser for the treatment of refractive defects, equipped with an XYZ and a rotational eye-tracker, iris recognition, personalized wavefront treatments.
Excimer laser (last generation) Baush+Lomb/Technolas Teneo 317	Latest generation laser for the treatment of refractive defects, equipped with an XYZ and a rotational eye-tracker, iris recognition, personalized wavefront treatments.
Femtosecond laser AMO IFS 120 Hz	This laser allows the surgeon to complete the operation precisely, without using blades or other cutting instruments. Used in Lasik treatments and for treating the cornea with lamellar transplants and perforating transplants, arcuate keratotomies and intracorneal lenses.
Femtosecond laser Bausch+Lomb – Technolas Perfect Vision: Victus	Latest generation of laser used in the treatment of cataract, Lasik and corneal transplant.
YAG laser Zeiss Visulas YAG II Plus	Laser used for the treatment of structures in the first portion of the eye (iris and posterior capsule).
Diode laser Iris OcuLight GL Plus	Laser used for the treatment of retinal lesions.

To support the femtosecond laser and for special clinical cases, the clinic Centro Ambrosiano Oftalmico also has a range of microkeratomes available (such as the Hansatome “Zero Compressor” and the more recent Hansatome XP, both produced by Technolas), instruments that create the corneal flaps for the LASIK treatment, using the controlled action of a pre-calibrated blade.

The Centro Ambrosiano Oftalmico employs 4 different ultrasound phacoemulsifiers in cataract surgery. These fragment the opaque crystalline through a microincision, with minimum trauma for the patient.

One of the first eye doctors to use this technique was Dr. Lucio Buratto and the procedures he perfected have replaced all of the other techniques; his constant commitment to studying new technologies ensures that the Centro Ambrosiano Oftalmico is always avant-garde where treatment options are concerned.

The phacoemulsifiers available in the Clinic are always the very latest generation; they are updated periodically and subjected to continuous maintenance cycles to maximize the performance of the instruments.

Regarding the diagnostic aspects, the eye examinations in CAMO are always performed with avant-garde instruments with the armamentarium constantly being updated.

Main diagnostic instrumetation

Fluorangiograph Canon CF-60UD	Used to photograph the retina and the retinal blood vessels, following injection of dye in to a vein.
Aberrometer Bausch+Lomb Technolas	Measures the deformation of light inside the eye and allows the definition of the personalized correction of the refractive defects.
Corneal tomograph ORBSCAN Bausch+Lomb Technolas	By analyzing the corneal shape, this instrument can diagnose any pathological deformations and allow the definition of the personalized correction of the refractive defects.
Pupillometer Ligi P-METRICS	This instrument evaluates pupil dynamics under various light conditions, indispensable for determining whether the patient is a suitable candidate for refractive surgery.
Visante OCT – Optic Coherence Tomograph for the anterior segment Zeiss VISANTE	This instrument is used to study the structures in the first portion of the eye (cornea, iris and crystalline lens) individually, and the spaces that lie between them.
Immersion biometer Alcon OCUSCAN	The biometer provides an accurate measurement of the length of the eye, an essential finding for calculating the lens (IOL) to implant during the cataract surgery.
Frontifocometer Topcon CL 100	This objectively measures the power of the spectacle lenses.
Autorefractometer – keratometer Canon R 50	This objectively measures the sight defect of the patient and the curvature of the cornea.
Endothelial microscope Topcon SP 3000 P	This microscope photographs the cells in the most internal layer of the cornea and measures the corneal thickness.
No contact biometer Zeiss IOL MASTER	The biometer takes a number of measurements of the eye, essential for calculating the power of the IOL for implantation during cataract surgery.
Visometer	The visometer measures the visual function of the macula (the portion of the retina responsible for central vision) even in the presence of cataract.
Air flow tonometer Topcon CT-1P	This instrument expresses the value of the intraocular pressure measured without touching the eye by blowing a gentle stream of air onto the eye.
Computerized campimeter Zeiss HUMPHREY	An instrument that measures the retinal sensitivity, not just centrally but also in the peripheral 30°.
Photographic slit lamp CSO ELITE MEGA DIGITAL VISION	An ocular microscope used to evaluate the anatomic structures of the eye that allows the surgeon to measure and memorize the images of the eye and monitor the pathologies over time.
Sirius topograph by CSO	It measures the corneal curvature through the use of a special photocamera (Scheimpflug): it measures the pupil diameter (essential in pre-surgical refractive diagnosis); it screens for degenerative pathologies of the cornea, and evaluates the shape and the distances in the anterior portion of the eye.
Autorefractometer – autokeratometer CANON RK-F2	MThis instrument objectively measures the visual defect and the curvature of the cornea.
OCT Spectral Domain – Optos OCTSLO	A no-contact instrument used to perform a CT scan of the retina, allowing the surgeon to study the sections of the eye, with the help of sunlight. It is not invasive.
